Where?
Pariaman is a coastal city located just to the north of Padang, a couple of hours drive away.
Why Visit?
Pariaman offers beautiful beaches in calm and laid back surroundings. There is easy access to three white sand islands via boat, and a turtle conservation center in Ampalu village, just along the coast. In land there is trekking available to Air Turjun Nyarai waterfall. Pariaman is the last place in Indonesia that still holds a Tabuik ceremony at the beginning of the Islamic New Year – a spectacular sight to see.
How to get there?
Pariaman is accessible from Padang via the road to Bukittinggi, with public transport options available from Indah Rung, or by taxi straight from the airport.
Where next?
Why not head to Bukittinggi to enjoy the mountain views and take in the sights at Padang Panjang along the way? Simpang Lapai is the place to find public transport out of Pariaman; buses are available to Bukittinggi and Padang, but also further afield places like Lake Toba, Medan, and even Jakarta.
